Making a day of your visit to the Western Hajar
If you still have some energy left, go home via Misfat Al Abryeen where you can take a late afternoon stroll through the beautiful traditional village….
There are many brilliant things about Al Hoota Cave and one of them is its location. Its less than 2 hours from Muscat, which is great, but it is really close to loads of other places to visit. If you have a spare Friday coming up we think this itinerary would make a great day out for the family.
Get up early and head to the livestock market at Nizwa. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the souq as business is done as it has been for centuries – if goats and cows aren’t your thing, seek out the colourful displays of seasonal fruits and vegetables. When you have finished at the Souq, make your way to the imposing Nizwa Fort to absorb some history and take in the glorious views from the top of the main tower.
Drive to Al Hoota Cave and head straight to the Midyaf restaurant to relax over a delicious, locally produced lunch. After lunch its time to jump on the train and plunge into the mountainside for your guided tour of the cave itself. Return to our visitor centre to visit the geological exhibition and pick up some souvenirs at the gift shop.
