Al Hoota Cave Welcomes Its First Visitors

As we said our goodbyes they assured us that they will all be back with their families soon. We look forward to it!…

Some of those lovely people from Omran visited us last week to find out what all the excitement was about and we were so happy to welcome them here. Omran has been the driving force behind the re-opening of the cave site and it was important that they get to see the fruits of all their hard work before we go public.

They made the easy journey from Muscat nice and early and had time for a cup of coffee in the visitor centre before getting on Oman’s only train for the short ride to the cave entrance. The first thing they commented on when they got inside was the subtlety of the lighting which enhances the most interesting features of the cave. Everyone loved the stalactites and stalagmites – they always do – and there were some amateur geologists who got very excited about the more complex rock formations. We heard squeals of delight when some people saw their very first bats and a couple of people, naming no names, were rather nervous of a spider we encountered en route – he was tiny! Turning the corner to see the magnificent lion formation is always one of highlights for first time visitors and, sure enough, this lot were delighted as they saw it appear before them.

Over lunch – which was declared as delicious – they decided that they would visit nearby Misfat Al Abryeen for a stroll around the beautiful old village before heading home.

As we said our goodbyes they assured us that they will all be back with their families soon. We look forward to it!
